– House History –
This old farm house was dedicated to the work of the field and the artisanal processes of an old hydraulic wheat mill built as of December 7, 1807 by the parishioner of the Town of Guasca, Señor Juan Thomás De Acosta Ospina.
With the permission granted by the Royal Spanish Crown, the flour mill was operated by several generations of the Acosta family until 1923, the year it was dismantled. The old farmhouse, on the other hand, endured the passing of the years fed by the lives of dozens of people who were born and died like ephemeral flames inside the centuries-old walls. In 2018, the flower producing company Teo Farms S.A.S., headed by Diana Luz Acosta Ardila – a sixth generation descendant of Juan Thomás – acquired, restored and recovered the old country house. The new owners, in honor of their ancestors, also built a water mill similar to the one from the colonial era.
Work description
The architectural work, in a rustic and colonial style, has contributed to the preservation of real estate, historical objects and documents, and oral accounts transmitted by the people who have lived in Guasca and its surroundings. Currently, the Acostas Mill celebrates the peasant farming and milling of wheat that has been practiced for centuries in Guashuca, the name given by the Muiscas to these highlands surrounded by hills overflowing with water and vegetation.
